Danai Pappa

Danai’s parents met at the communist party of Greece and soon after they accidentally had a baby. The baby grew up in the 80’s in front of an ancient Roman forum in Thessaloniki, Greece. She was forced to take ballet classes since a very young age to improve her orthopedic foot issues.

She now works as a performer, choreographer and video dance maker. She is a founding member of Agony Art, co-curating dance and music events in East London. Her work has been showed in festivals and venues such as Conway Hall, Fascinate Showcase, King’s Place, Live interfaces, Sonorities Festival of Contemporary Music, The Place, Luton Summer Festival, Chisenhale Dance Space, Festival of the Association of Greek choreographers, Cloud Dance Festival, International Biennale of Design, La Caldera and Outokummun Teatteri. Her videos have been screened in various video-dance festivals around Europe and South America. Collaborations with choreographers and dance companies include Rosemary Lee, Gregor Weber, Jelka Milic, Oiseaux Bizarres Ensemble, Flat Feet Dance Company, Plastique Fantastique, musicians such as Reynaldo Young, Andriana Minou, Erik Nyström, Luca Nasciuti, Neal Spowage and the visual artist Eleni Theofylaktou.

Danai studied Archaeology (BA) and Museum Studies (MA) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Social Anthropology at University Complutense of Madrid (Erasmus exchange programme). She graduated from the Superior Dance School of Thessaloniki (BA in Dance) and then she moved to London where she completed an MA in Choreography at Middlesex University. Danai is also a qualified Pilates instructor (Body Control Pilates). She is a Scorpio.
